Dr. Anthony Sena
PhD degree in Biomedical Sciences from UNM School of Medicine
MS and BS degrees from Eastern New Mexico University
Dr. Anthony Sena is a professor of biology and biomedical sciences at Northern New Mexico College (Northern) where his is also assigned as the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences.
A faculty member at Northern since 1981, Dr. Sena served for many years as the Chairman of the Department of Mathematics, Science and Engineering as well as a Provost and Vice-President for Academic Affairs. Before coming to Northern, Dr. Sena was an assistant professor of biology at the Catholic University of Puerto Rico and a high school teacher in southern New Mexico.
Currently a Vice-Chairperson on the Governance Board of the McCurdy Charter School, Dr. Sena is also an institutional liaison and reviewer for the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the New Mexico Alliance for Minority Participation (NM-AMP). Besides his teaching and administrative duties, Dr. Sena serves as a mentor to students in the biology program’s Undergraduate Research Experiences (URE) effort. Dr. Sena has received multiple awards in recognition of his teaching and mentoring, including national recognition for mentorship from SACNAS, the Society for Chicanos and Native Americans in Science. Other honors include being named to the Science Hall of Honors at ENMU and being inducted to the UNM Chapter of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society of North America.
